🌸 Week 36 of Pregnancy

“At this point, every outing needs snacks, water, and a bathroom nearby 😭🍼”

Welcome to week 36 — the official countdown phase 👀✨

Everything may feel heavier, slower, and more uncomfortable now… and honestly? That’s completely normal 🤍

🤰 What’s happening in your body?

Your baby may now be moving lower into your pelvis preparing for birth.

This is called:

💫 Engagement or “lightening”

You may notice:
 ✔ easier breathing
 ✔ less heartburn
❌ but more pressure on your bladder 😅
❌ and walking may feel harder

Pelvic heaviness and pressure are very common now.

🔄 What if baby is not head-down yet?

Some babies are still:

  • breech
  • or sideways

Your doctor may offer:

✨ External Cephalic Version (ECV)

This is a procedure where gentle pressure is applied on your abdomen to help turn the baby into a head-down position.

✔ sometimes successful
 ✔ done under medical supervision

💉 RSV Vaccine

If you haven’t had the RSV vaccine yet, you may still be able to receive it before labour.

🦠 It helps protect your baby from:

  • chest infections
  • bronchiolitis
  • breathing problems after birth

👶 What Does Your Baby Look Like?

Your baby is now around 47.4 cm long from head to heel — about the size of a large romaine lettuce 🥬💙

🫁 Lungs & Breathing

By now, your baby’s lungs are usually mature enough to breathe outside the womb without extra help after birth ✨

🍼 Feeding Skills

Your baby can now:
 ✔ suck
 ✔ swallow
 ✔ digest breast milk

Your little one is actively preparing for life outside your belly 👀

🤱 Breastfeeding

Still unsure about breastfeeding? That’s okay 🤍

Breastfeeding:
💙 helps protect your baby from infections
 💙 strengthens bonding
💙 can burn around 300 calories daily 😄

✨ And remember:
Breast size does NOT affect your ability to breastfeed.

👶 Different Ways Babies Are Born

🌸 Vaginal Birth

Labour usually has 3 stages:
 1️⃣ Cervix opens
 2️⃣ Baby is born
 3️⃣ Placenta is delivered

Sometimes labour may need induction using medications or breaking the waters.

🏥 Caesarean Section

Around 3 in 10 babies are born by C-section.

It may be:
 ✔ planned
 ✔ or emergency

This involves:

  • surgery through the abdomen and uterus
  • stitches afterward
  • hospital recovery for a few days

👶 Assisted Delivery

Sometimes babies need help coming out using:

  • forceps
  • or a ventouse vacuum cup

You may need:
 ✔ epidural
 ✔ or an episiotomy

🌸 VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Caesarean)

If you had a previous C-section, you may still be able to deliver vaginally this time 👀

It depends on:

  • why you had the previous C-section
  • your current pregnancy
  • your doctor’s assessment

⚠️ Common Symptoms at Week 36

You may experience:

  • Braxton Hicks contractions
  • leaking urine when coughing or laughing 😭
  • pelvic pressure
  • back pain
  • indigestion and heartburn
  • constipation and bloating
  • leg cramps
  • trouble sleeping
  • swollen hands and feet
  • dizziness
  • increased discharge
  • leaking colostrum
  • exhaustion and heaviness

😴 Sleep

Sleeping comfortably now can feel impossible 😭

✔ Sleep on your side
 ✔ Use pillows for support
✔ Stay hydrated during the day

🧘‍♀‍ Pelvic Floor Exercises

Pelvic floor exercises are very important now.

✔ help prevent urine leakage
 ✔ support recovery after birth
 ✔ strengthen pelvic muscles

🧳 Pack Your Hospital Bag

If you haven’t packed it yet… now is definitely the time 😄🍼

🍞 Eating in the Third Trimester

❌ You do NOT need to “eat for two” 😄

You only need around:
 ✔ 200 extra calories daily

That’s about:
🍞 2 slices of wholemeal toast

Focus on:

  • protein
  • iron
  • calcium
  • fruit and vegetables
  • hydration

😴 Emotional Wellbeing

Feeling:

  • anxious?
  • emotional?
  • overwhelmed?

✔ Completely normal 🤍

Especially now that labour is getting closer.

💫 Baby Movements

Even though space is tighter:
✔ movements should still be regular and strong

🚨 Reduced movements should NEVER be ignored.

🚨 Call your doctor urgently if:

  • movements decrease
  • bleeding occurs
  • fluid leaks
  • severe headache develops
  • blurred vision happens
  • severe abdominal or rib pain develops
  • regular painful contractions start

You’re getting very close to meeting your baby now 🤍✨
