Is your baby still “sitting”? Here’s your guide to help your baby turn head-down 👶✨

If your ultrasound shows that your baby is still in a breech position (bottom-down), the first thing I want you to do is take a deep breath and relax. This happens in about 3% of pregnancies, and there are many ways we can gently encourage your baby to turn naturally.

Let’s go through what you can do between weeks 30 and 37 to help your baby move into the head-down

1. Simple exercises you can do at home (from 30–37 weeks) 🧘‍♀️

Breech Tilt Exercise
One of the most effective exercises to help your baby tuck their chin and start turning.

  • How to do it: Lie on the floor and elevate your hips using pillows so that your pelvis is 20–30 cm higher than your head.
  • How often: 3 times a day, 10–15 minutes each time. Ideally on an empty stomach.

Knee-to-Chest Position
Uses gravity to create more space for your baby to move.

  • How to do it: Get on your knees and elbows (similar to a modified kneeling position), keeping your hips elevated.
  • Duration: 5–15 minutes, twice daily.

Forward-Leaning Inversion… the powerful one! 💪✨

This is a stronger version of the knee-to-chest position and can be very effective when done correctly.

  • How to do it:
    • Start on your knees at the edge of a couch or bed.
    • Carefully lower your hands to the floor.
    • Pro tip: Tuck your chin toward your chest—this helps relax your pelvic muscles and gives your baby more room to turn.
  • Safety first (very important):
    • Never do this alone—have someone support you.
    • Use a non-slip mat under your hands.
    • Hold the position for no more than 30 seconds.
    • Repeat 3–4 times daily rather than holding for a long time.

Swimming… comfort for both of you 🏊♀️
Water makes you feel lighter and gives your baby more freedom to move. If you have access to a pool, it’s a

  1. Smart tricks to encourage your baby

Cold & Warm Technique
Babies move toward warmth and away from cold.

  • Place something cold (like a wrapped ice pack) near the baby’s head.
  • Place something warm near your lower abdomen.
  • This may encourage your baby to move toward the warmth.

Dad’s voice & music 🎶
Place headphones or let the father talk near the lower abdomen. Babies often respond to familiar sounds and may move toward them.

Moxibustion… a traditional Chinese technique 🌿

An ancient method using heat stimulation.

  • How it works: A herb (mugwort) is burned near a pressure point called BL67, located at the outer corner of the little toe.
  • Effect: The warmth increases fetal activity, encouraging the baby to turn naturally.

Daily posture tip 💡
Your sitting and standing posture matters! Good posture creates more space in your uterus, helping your baby move more freely.

What if we reach 37 weeks and baby is still breech? 🩺

Don’t worry—we still have safe medical options:

  • External Cephalic Version (ECV):
in our clinic we will attempt to turn the baby manually from outside the abdomen in a hospital setting. Success rates are quite good.
  • Cesarean section:
Often the safest option in many breech cases.
  • Vaginal breech delivery:
Possible in very selected cases under strict medical criteria.
